What does it mean to
organize and prioritize time?

Do you organize and prioritize daily commitments to make room for a time plan for your path to career success?

Yes. I am talking about time management.

There are good things about time management.

And, as with most things, negative results can occur when time management strategies are applied incorrectly or not used at all.

Let’s turn to Miriam Webster’s Dictionary for a definition of time. The main entry states that time is

“... the measured or measurable period during which an action, process, or condition exists or continues”.

Time is a tool. You can use it to support the creation and maintenance of a career success plan. The CGB System helps you gain an understanding of the value of incorporating time management into a career progress plan by using CGB's TOP Strategy for time management.

What is CGB's
TOP Strategy of time management?

The TOP Strategy of time management in the Career Growth Basics System is built on an understanding of the components of time along with two vital skills that support the creation of a path to career success. This strategy is easily remembered through the use of the following formula:

TOP STRATEGY

TIME+ ORGANIZATION + PRIORITIZATION

An explanation of this formula starts with the two components of time. They are:

1.There are 24 hours in a day.

2.There are 168 hours in a week.

Understanding the skill of organization begins with a definition of organize, the root word of organization. Miriam Webster’s Dictionary defines the verb organize as:

“to form into a coherent unity or functioning whole : INTEGRATE”.

The definition of the noun organization is:

“the act or process of organizing or of being organized”.

Applying the skill of organization to time supports these outcomes:

  • A focus on daily tasks.
  • Increased productivity.
  • Movement towards career goals.
  • Avoidance of over-commitment.
  • Less stress.

Understanding the skill of prioritization begins with a definition of prioritize, the root word of prioritization. Miriam Webster’s Dictionary defines the verb prioritize as:

“ to list or rate (projects, goals, etc.) in order of priority”.

Oxford Dictionary defines the noun prioritization as:

“the act of putting tasks, problems, etc. in order of importance, so that you can deal with the most important first”.

Applying the skill of organization to time supports  these outcomes:

  • Builds flexibility to enable informed problem-solving skills and decision-making skills.
  • Heightens awareness to know when to say no.
  •  Increases confidence.
  • Encourages work/family/leisure balance.
  • Enables spontaneity.

At the core of the TOP Strategy of the CGB System of time management is the habit of self-reflection. Developing the use of this habit in a career progress plan encourages:

*Heightened awareness of the basic elements of time.

*Improved understanding of how to use time to achieve goals.

What benefits can result from using time skills in a career success plan?

Benefits of using time skills in a career success plan can include:
